One of the easiest of FTP programs to use is WS_FTP. You may use any ftp program you like but USAtek can only offer support to WS_FTP and CUTEFTP. For any other, we will only be able to verify you are using the correct information to access the program, but not necessarily be able to tell you where to implement the info in the program.
Getting the Program
Okay, you say... I have the website, but where do I get the program? We recommend any reliable, virus-free download site but the link provided will access http://download.com.com/3000-2160-1572132.html?tag=lst-0-1. Feel free to use any other, such as shareware.com or tucows.com but please be sure to download "WS_FTP LE" as the screen shots seen here match the LE version, but differ slightly from the Pro version. Be sure to remember where the program is downloading to!
Setting Up to FTP
Once you have the program downloaded, you need to install it. Before installation, please remember to close all other programs, including your internet connection. As with any program, if you do not close all other programs, you will run the risk of corrupting the new program, or any other program, on your system. Simply closing the programs during the installation will avoid this for you, so always work on the side of caution with your computer.
The program has an installer that will walk you through the installation on your computer, simply read and follow the instructions there and the set up will be relatively simple.
Using the Program
The first time you go to use the program, you will need to set up the program to access your designated space with USAtek. Once this is done, you can save the information for use later, so the main concentration here is going to be getting it set up properly. Without the correct information in the right place, the program will not let you access USAtek.
Opening FTP
1) When you open ws_ftp, the first screen you will see is the screen where you will input all of the above information. This window is the Session Properties window and can be seen below.

2) When the Session Properties window opens, it will open to the General tab. On the top right corner of that window there are two buttons, New and Delete.
3) Click on the New button and you will see the screen change to the same thing, but all of the fields will be blank. Enter your own information using the above image and information as a guide.
4) Once you have all of the information entered correctly, click on the Apply button and then click on OK
5) Once you click on OK, you will be directed to another screen and if you watch the bottom it will run through verifying your information. If you entered any information incorrectly, this is where you will see an error message. This second screen can be seen below. Note that the left side of the screen is the information on your own computer (also known as the local system) and the right side is the remote system, also known as your USAtek web space or where you want to send the files to.
You will want to locate your files on your computer first by using the down arrow on the right side of the box just below where it says "Local System".
6) On the right side, or the remote system, you will notice a folder simply called public_html . This is the folder in which ALL of your web files must go in order to be able to let others view them on your web page. To open the public_html folder, simply double click on the folder itself.
In order to be sure you are putting your files in the public_html folder, follow the image below to be sure the path name, shown in the on the right side below, shows /public_html . Double click on the public_html on the right hand window so that your files are movable into the public_html directory on our server.

7) To move a file, be sure you are in the correct directory (or folder) on the Left Side, also known as your computer. Highlight the file name by clicking on it once, and click on the bottom arrow (-->) in between the two windows. This will move a copy of the file from your computer to the Right Side, or your individual space with USAtek.
8) Once the file transfer is complete, you will notice the Remote System window reloads itself, and you will now be able to see the file in the public_html folder. Each additional file can be moved in the same manner.
